The northern white rhinoceros is the inspiration for this sculpture. The largest of the rhinoceros species.It is identified by its long horn. Its form and beauty is indeed captivating. 

Our craftsmen like to bring its plight of its near extinction due to the uncontrolled hunting in the colonial era and now the poaching for their horn is the primary threat. The horn is highly prized in traditional Asian medicine, where it is grounded into fine powder or manufactured into tablets to be used as a treatment for a variety of illnesses.

The white rhino is particularly vulnerable to hunting, because it is a large and relatively unaggressive animal with very poor eyesight and generally occurs in herds.
